LEMN: CITY DISCOVERY 'DEATH!
An ancient lost city, a contemporary of the legendary Trojan War (1300-1200 BC), was discovered virtually intact by a mission of the Italian Archaeological School of Athens on the island of Lemnos, Northern Aegean, the Dardanelles in front of (just 40 miles separating the island from the site where Schliemann found Troy, Homer tells us that the Achaean warriors besiegers received the wine Lemnos and the island was also found a complicated vinification system of 7 century BC).
The discovery of the urban settlement of the Bronze Age in the area now called Hephaestus, was announced by the Director of the Italian Archaeological School of Athens, Greek Emanuele, in a conference side of the 20th international film festival archaeological organized by the Civic Museum in Rovereto. The mission he (the latest excavation was completed last summer) has unearthed the ancient settlement that was later covered by the settlements. The city was to be practiced metallurgy, as evidenced by the fact that even today is named after Hephaestus, the god who forged metals. The excavation of Greek I found forges and crucibles of 7 century BC
A Lemnos, in fact, Italian researchers dig for a long time, and with remarkable results: even in 1926 - said Greek - a mission led by the Director of the era of Italian Archaeological School of Athens, Alessandro Della Seta, had discovered in the locality Poliochni the oldest urban settlement in Europe. The deepest layer dates from the late Neolithic period, around 3200 BC, and the Italian excavations brought to light the walls, roads, sewers, a building designed to accommodate meetings of eighty people, and a house identified as that of a ruler. The urban area was recovered unchanged, in the state in which he had hurriedly left the inhabitants were terrified by a violent earthquake, one of the many earthquakes which have always disturbed the region, a kind of Pompeii in the Aegean. The excavation of Silk had highlighted 7:00 to 8:00 overlapping layers of built-up area, and traces of metals: the city produced and exported objects of copper, with metals from the mines of Anatolia. But Della Seta had come to find something else to Lemnos: etruscologists jew fascist and nationalist (and end miserably betrayed the racial laws of the fascist regime, says Greek), wanted to find evidence corroborating the exodus of the Etruscans from Anatolia, that Herodotus had stopped at Lemnos. This research Silk was encouraged by an inscription on the funerary stele of a warrior discovered in the mouth Kaminia: writing is Greek, while the language has strong similarities with the Etruscan. But the confirmation sought by Della Seta is not found, and the question remains open, despite the recent discovery of another similar inscription, in the same language, again at Lemnos: it was a shrine in the 6th century BC, to which the settlements had replaced after the construction of a theater. Today, as explained in Greek, archaeologists speculate that, if this is the Etruscan language, probably had come from Etruria, Etruscan, perhaps with the pirates: they write the chroniclers of the Athenian leader Miltiades Lemnos Tirreni tore the city and offered to his possession of the island.

ROME: FOUND ON THE DINING ROOM OF NERO PALATINE!
found, on the Palatine Hill, the 'coenatio rotunda', or better 'dining room of Nero' which ran day and night imitating the motion of the earth. To date, many scholars had been identified in the octagonal room on the Colle Oppio. It is located exactly in the Vigna Barberini and e 'emerged during the work of consolidation of the area. E'''was an accidental discovery - said Mariantonietta Tomei, director of the Palatine - We were doing work with by the superintendent to carry out geological surveys. We started digging and found a powerful structure, never seen before, which makes us think of a classroom due to the rotating dining room of Nero.''
Work began in June to continue until it is out of the total area to identify which is the operation of this rotating room:''So far we have found two piles - Tomei continues - and box office filled with a substance that allows the rotation of a building that, according to Suetonius, turning slowly and was decorated with waterfalls of flowers.''
The entire structure could be extended to about 60m in length. Dating after the fire 64d.C. and before damnatio memoriae of Nero began the Flavian, stood overlooking the valley of the Colosseum, then occupied by an artificial lake, allowing a 360 ° view from the Capitol on the Aventine, the Celio hill to continue the excavation of Velia.Per Commissioner archaeological area of Rome, Roberto Cecchi, provided funding of 200,000 €.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES: Total 12 POZZUOLI A STATUE! HERCULES
NAPOLI - The Rione Terra di Pozzuoli continues to return ancient treasures. Twelve sculptures, male and female heads, draped busts, are the new evidence of the wealth of the Campi Flegrei, where since 1993 are ongoing excavations of the Archaeological Superintendence of Naples and special Pompei.La findings to the affected area is south of the hill, where stood public buildings, baths, domus and the sea. The area is between two decumani, the one of Via Villanova further north, which has been highlighted most of the track and another further south, which has been excavated only a short distance. The nature of the materials found interesting, the architectural marble, representing different types (skirting, cornices, columns, slab, floor slabs, capitals, primary phases), the sculptural pieces (head-portrait Emperor heads ideals and private male and female, high relief, equestrian statues, groups), fragments of inscriptions, which give rise to origin of the objects to be more monumental buildings, colonnades and also stripped of its decorations. In particular, over the head of the Emperor Titus graduate (or with the laurel on his head), showed two other male heads of which a fragment of a portrait of the late repubblicana.Due the female heads, perhaps of a rider of the second century AD The other portrait of Empress of the late Julio Claudian. And again: a antefix Gorgon of the second century, four torsos, including a draped female statue, of a toga, a high relief with two figures, the fragment of a horse. The context of the findings include, on the north side of the street decumano Villanova, an environment, a square, which shows traces of a complex building history, with later renovations and adjustments. The earliest phase is the Republican era in reticulated work with following reconstruction. A convenient ramp lined with steps leading to cocciopesto underground tunnels, arched section. In their first phase of the tunnels were probably designed to collect water coming from the square root of the spaces adjacent foro.Trasformazioni caused the cancellation of the burrows, which were filled with a discharge of debris and a large number of marble sculptures and architectural fragments, immersed in an earthy matrix. The dynamics, the manner and timing for the exalted, will be clarified only after the completion of the investigation, still ongoing. E 'likely, given the large size of the finds, they have been discharged from a well inspection, which opens on the upper terrace in front of the temple of Augustus, where the hole is located with public buildings.

White marble, lion's skin. Hercules returns after 2000 years

PORTO TORRES. When the land is a ticked off a smart piece of white marble, archaeologists and workers have rubbed my eyes. In recent days, the excavation area of Via delle Terme led by scientific director Antoinette Boninu, discoveries follow one another with relentless pace, but the one yesterday was extraordinary. A bust of Hercules. 125 cm tall, white marble, without the head and upper limb - is only a piece of the right arm up to the biceps - with the broken right leg at the groin and the left just above the knee. A product that brings artists of age classical high-level, dating to a first reading to the first century after Christ, or however high-imperial Roman age, which are easy to read recurring items in all the statuary that characterizes this mythological figure with the legs of Leontes, the mantle that covers the shoulders of the statue made by the lion that killed the son of Jupiter in one of his twelve labors. The subject is therefore immediately became clear: Hercules, divine creature of the element of water, the hero is closely related to travel, to trade. A recurring figure in the topography of the area of the north-west of Sardinia, with sites such as the Herculis Insula (Asinara) and the station For Herculem, just near the ancient Turris Libisonis. "This bust of Hercules, the Herakles always associated Asinara island and the city of Libisonis Turris is a very significant find, very important for the city's history," says scientific coordinator of the excavation Antonio Pandolfi. A discovery that Herculean torso, which should help to shed light on understanding of the complex, as explained more Antonella Pandolfi: "This Hercules may be part of a group of sculptures and is the first statue found in Porto Torres in stratigraphic context, emerged however, between the material shows in combination with other architectural elements such as a column more than three feet, also in white marble, with beautiful flute, a Corinthian capital of the same material, the fragment of another column frame and smooth gray marble. " The excavation began in Via delle Terme in 2006 and even then shot up a mosaic with a salutation that is unique to Sardinia.
After two years of interruption, the archaeological investigation was resumed a few weeks ago, bringing to light an important structural unit: A building divided into several rooms and paved with mosaics. The complex was to become part a large open space or porch, next to which the workers of the Restoration Sini, led by archaeologists Enrico Petruzzi and Daniela Deriu and Franco Usai detector, have found the bust of Hercules. The statue - recovered, carefully sealed and protected under the watchful eye of head coach yard at Porto Torres, Franco Satta - was then transported to the restoration of Li Punti, escorted by the police for the protection of core assets, led by Captain Gian Filippo Manconi. In the excavation went the mayor of Porto Torres, Luciano Mura, who, excited by the discovery, he reiterated that the City Turritano had already started an argument with the former Regional Council for the Protection of the area, on the basis of the findings made in 2006. "These findings - has said - showed that this area had a monumental considerable value, and not less than Tuvixeddu. There is now a need for a development that can only be done with special measures of the region with which we hope to resume dialogue. "
